How You Can Work with a Mortgage Broker Remotely

Even if you can’t meet face-to-face, you can still qualify for a mortgage

All information in this article is applicable only on an individual basis pending a lender’s approval and OAC.

We’ve talked before about how to pick a mortgage broker to work with, but one thing we haven’t discussed is how you can work with a mortgage broker remotely. Thanks to our increasingly connected world, a mortgage broker can help you secure funding even if you’re miles apart! We have a few tips on getting ready to work with a broker remotely, so you can get the best service possible.

Establish the avenues of communication early

Everyone has their own preferences for how they want to communicate. Are you more a fan of email, texting, or using chat apps like WhatsApp? By talking to your broker and figuring out how the two of you will communicate – before you get into the application process – you can ensure that there aren’t any huge roadblocks from differing communication styles. After all, you never want to be in a situation where you never check your email and your broker has sent you reminders about outstanding documents they need through that medium.

Figure out when to communicate

Once you’ve determined how you’ll be communicating with your mortgage broker, the next step is to figure out when. Do you work night shifts, a traditional 9-5, or do your work hours vary? There might be situations where a lender last-minute needs a new document from you to fund your mortgage, and by having set times when your broker can contact you will allow them to give you the best experience possible.

Decide how you’ll transfer documents

Many people don’t like to send sensitive information through electronic means, and that’s perfectly reasonable! However, make sure that your broker knows how you like to send documents like proof of income, employment history, and other sensitive information that a lender will require. This will give your broker an idea of what kind of timeline there will be for getting documents back from you – after all, a situation where they’re expecting documents within a day via email but you’ve sent them by standard mail is far from ideal.

If you’re ready to take the next step toward getting a mortgage, get in touch with us here! We’ve worked remotely with a number of our clients, and we always do everything we can to give you the best experience possible!
